Yogis from around the world travel to Israel’s scenic wilderness for festival

Hundreds gathered for annual event, which offered stunning views of the local landscape.

Why practice yoga in your basement when you can stretch your body with hundreds of fellow yoga enthusiasts in a beautiful natural setting? The 9th annual Yoga Arava festival just took place in southern Israel. Hundreds of people traveled this weekend to the area where beautiful fall days with warm temperatures were capped off by cool nights across more than 100 miles of wilderness. The unique outdoor setting attracted yoga practitioners from around the world.

The event was held in Israel’s Timna Valley, a rocky landscape that’s reminiscent of the Badlands and Arches national parks in the U.S. “With its colorful rock formations and dramatic landscape, it has a stunning beauty that has captivated visitors for more than two centuries,” Erez Ben-Yosef, an archaeology professor at Tel Aviv University, told From The Grapevine. “In addition to the natural attractions, the area is dotted with dozens of archaeological sites.”
